Job Performance Evaluation
Most companies have job performance evaluations between one to four times a year. The job performance appraisal process is an opportunity for employees and employers to get together to discuss the employee's strengths and weaknesses, track record and goals. In most cases, there is an opportunity for an increase in pay if the employee performs well on the assessment. Assessment forms are usually kept for every evaluation session and stored in an employee's personnel file as a permanent record of the meeting. If an employee has questions later regarding the raise received (or lack of one), he can go back to his file and consult the form.
It may be difficult for employers to decide just how much of a raise someone should get. There are many factors that go into implementing a raise, including the average pay for that position throughout the industry, how much competitors are paying and the employee's past performance. Compensation consultants are invaluable resources when it comes to helping management determine the types of raises that should arise from job performance evaluations. Compensation consultants can even help a company design and implement an entirely new pay structure if the old system needs an overhaul.
Job Performance Evaluations Done the Right Way
When employee compensation programs are fair and equitable, there is greater employee satisfaction and retention across the board. That is what makes the role of the compensation consultant so important. The advice of the consultant can have a major impact on a company's bottom line.
