Performance Evaluation
The performance evaluation is held one to four times a year in most companies and is an appointment looked forward to with a mixture of excitement and apprehension by most employees. If an employee is doing well, there's the excitement of hoping for an increase in compensation or some other incentive. Apprehension is always there, because most employees have enough self-doubt regarding whether they're really doing as well as they think they're doing. For employees who aren't performing up to expected standards, the performance evaluation can be a useful means of helping them see where their weaknesses lie and give them the motivation they need to do better next time. The motivation provided could be in the form of a promise of increased compensation or some other incentive at the next performance evaluation if that employee's goals are met in the interim.
Most performance evaluations are done on pre-printed forms to provide a written record of the event. Employees who have questions about their job evaluations can always ask to see the written form later to go over what was said at the interview. This provides a paper trail for job evaluations that protects both the employer and the employee.
Performance Evaluations to Improve Results Among Employees
In order to determine the right amount of compensation to offer employees who are set to get raises, compensation consultants are often retained by company managers. Compensation consultants thoroughly evaluate an industry, as well as an individual company to determine appropriate compensation plans.
